Mr. Fluellen is not just a teacher but he is "that teacher"! Expect to stay on pace and work consistently. The courses are challenging. The academic rigor is high. The content is not just formulas, rules, and laws, but rather an avenue to real-world applications that will be explored, engaged, and mastered. Mr. Fluellen has earned several advanced degrees, has worked in several STEAM-related fields, and will start work on his Doctorate in January of 2020. Busy is an understatement. So be ready to work on your goals too. He teaches with a passion to make the content jump off the page while integrating student interest and technology into weekly lessons.

BIO

Mr. Fluellen was interested in everything as a young learner. Music, engineering, space, cars, poetry, art, and food topped the list. As an Atlanta native, the opportunity to enjoy all of those interest were readily available. Mr. Fluellen had the opportunity to narrow those interests and build life long skills through attending some of the most award-winning, rigorous, and academically challenging educational institutions. The adventure begins at Atlanta's very Own Frederick Douglass High School and its Signature CFEAT program. Mr. Fluellen didn't just obtain interest and general understandings, but rather usable skills sets, content knowledge, and certifications to become a proficient educational scholar. The proud shooting star went on to obtain several advanced degrees in engineering, mathematics. and mathematics education. Mr. Fluellen also owns a business, has a wife, and one amazingly inquisitive little boy who keeps him grounded. Mr. Fluellen thinks that all things are relative and your learning as a student is apart of the welcomed and necessary change and progress of this world's future. All of Mr. Fluellen's students will learn, contribute, progress, and join a community of expanding thinkers who influence the world around them. As the students would say "Facts".

WANT TO GET AWAY?

Every day for the foreseeable future we should spend a few moments and try to get away. Obviously we have to do so virtually, but let's think of creative ways to learn and explore the world around us. How do these equations translate to the real world? How is our content involved in our personal interest? What does the lastest song have to do with mathematics? Where do I want to go once class is over to explore more? All valid questions and as soon as we finish our work, we will explore.

ALGEBRA 2

Spring 2021

Algebra II/Advanced Algebra is the culminating course in a sequence of three high school courses designed to ensure career and college readiness. It is designed to prepare students for fourth course options relevant to their career pursuits. The standards in the three-course high school sequence specify the mathematics that all students should study in order to be college and career ready. Additional mathematics content is provided in fourth credit courses and advanced courses including pre-calculus, calculus, advanced statistics, discrete mathematics, and mathematics of finance courses. High school course content standards are listed by conceptual categories including Number and Quantity, Algebra, Functions, Geometry, and Statistics and Probability. Conceptual categories portray a coherent view of high school mathematics content; a student’s work with functions, for example, crosses a number of traditional course boundaries, potentially up through and including calculus. Standards for Mathematical Practice provide the foundation for instruction and assessment.

AP COMPUER SCIENCE

Spring 2021

Computer Science Principles and Computer Science Applications are two advanced placement courses offered within the FDHS STEAM pathway. The courses have interchangeable big ideas but include many familiar concepts from the introductory course. Web & Digital Communications, Programming, Electronics, Information Support & Services, and Network Systems are just some of the areas covered. The class is also taught at the collegiate level and upon successful completion of an exam, a student can also earn college credit. .
